No two people have the same outlook toward Photo Shop. Some say it is not photography, some say it is, and some like me say perhaps and perhaps not. When I used only film or slides I could create impressionist photographs inspired by my dear friend Dubi Roman, an outstanding teacher like Andre Gallant or a priceless artist ...Van Gough, Monet, or perhaps Seurat through double exposures, multiple exposures, and messing around with ISO, exposure and sharpness. It was considered creative photography and people would ask me in wonderment "how did you do that"? Not having one of those great digital cameras that afford this luxury, I have learned how to get the same effects by doing exactly the same in Photo Shop. Certainly a fine line! But more than recreating effects my Canon does not permit me to do by pushing a button, Photo Shop allows me to explore, play and create. In school I was chided for drawing blue cats and coloring the sky purple. I liked the way they looked. The teachers did not. Drawing had to be precise. Don't go outside the lines in a coloring book. Keep proportion. Everyone draw a house tree and family and it better look like a house tree and family. In Photo Shop I can create my own world, take one of my photographs to a different place and add my green cats and purple skies. I can even scribble in blurry flowers. I can create whatever I like. Is it photography? No! Is it Art. Perhaps! Is it fun? Try it and then send me your answer.
